Celestial Semiconductor is a fabless semiconductor company in the digital television segment. The company's initial target market will be the Chinese satellite set-top box opportunity, coinciding with a government funded satellite launch in mid 2006. The company's video codec is based on a new Chinese video compression standard, Audio Video Standard ("AVS"). The company is also developing MPEG-2, MPEG-4/H.264, Windows Media and other communications semiconductors.
